The VAV is proud to announce its first Online Residency Program. We have invited 12 artists to realize a two-month research/research-creation project, for which they have received an honorarium and project budget. The residency will take place exclusively online and in two groups of six artists.

Each group’s residency will culminate in a final online exhibition, including presentations from the artists about their process. Throughout their residency, artists will be given the opportunity to “take-over” the VAV Instagram for a period of a weekend each.

We would like to begin by acknowledging that Concordia University is located on unceded Indigenous lands. The Kanien’kehá:ka Nation is recognized as the custodians of the lands and waters on which we gather today. Tiohtià:ke/Montréal is historically known as a gathering place for many First Nations. Today, it is home to a diverse population of Indigenous and other peoples. We respect the continued connections with the past, present and future in our ongoing relationships with Indigenous and other peoples within the Montreal community.

The everyday is a site of intimacy, exploration and process. A space that allows one to carve out the familiar and let the unknown slowly seep in. It’s shifting state holds the potential to reveal and conceal pathways of moving encounters and relationships. It bridges the distance between the inner and the outer, allowing a landscape of memories to exist.

Briefly Holding What is Moving invites 6 artists to find common ground in the act of listening to the familiar and unearthing the strength of wayfinding.
